Welcome to Cottonwood Heights City Recorders Office. 

The city recorder position is statutory, meaning Utah law requires every city or town to have a recorder or clerk. They are responsible for all records relating to city business.

The city recorder:

  • Ensures the city complies with state laws in posting public meetings and sharing public records, including the Open and Public Meeting Act.
  • Administers the City’s Public Records Request Program per the Government Records Access and Management Act. (GRAMA)
  • Maintains official Cottonwood Heights records, including ordinances and resolutions, contracts, and the Municipal Code.
  • Maintains and preserves the official records of the city including the proceedings, council actions, and minutes of the Cottonwood Heights City Council and Redevelopment Agency. Prepares agendas and packets and countersigns all contracts made on the city's behalf.
  • Protects official city seal and attends the opening of all sealed bids.
  • As the Elections Official for the city, supervises and coordinates all Municipal Elections.
  • The deputy city recorder records and manages records for Planning Commission meetings, Architectural Review Commission meetings, Appeals Hearing Officer meetings, and Administrative Hearings.

GUIDELINES FOR SERVING DOCUMENTS TO THE CITY

 Subpoenas, Summons and Complaints

To serve a Subpoena, Summons, or Complaint, please come into the office during regular business hours, you may also schedule an appointment with the city recorder via email cityrecorder@ch.utah.gov, or call (801) 944-7021.

In the absence of the city recorder, the deputy city recorder accepts and certifies on behalf of the city, all summons, lawsuits, and served notices; issues orders, answers, responses, etc., which are deemed final and conclusive according to state regulations; receives and processes claims of injury.

Notices of Claim

  1. Can be mailed to:

  1. Or emailed to cityrecorder@ch.utah.gov. Please be timely, the notice of claim must be mailed/emailed on or before the deadline for filing, which will be determined by the postmarked date on the envelope/email.

  1. File/submit the notice of claim via mail, or email to cityrecorder@ch.utah.gov. To file the claim in-person, please call (801) 944-7022 to make an appointment or just come into the office during business hours.
