The finance department:
- Promotes, secures, and preserves the city's financial and property interests
- Supervises financial activities
- Advises the city manager on fiscal policy
- Creates interim and annual financial reports
- Prepares the annual budget and comprehensive annual financial reports (CAFR), which independent auditors review
- Monitors monthly revenues and expenditures and prepares city council reports
- Processes accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
- Balances government funds as required by Utah Code section 10-6-117
