Cottonwood Heights requires a special event permit for all temporary events on city streets and property that:
- Close a street (including block parties)
- Block or restrict public property
- Sell merchandise, food or beverages
- Use amplified sound
- Include parades
- Sell alcohol
- Use tents and portable restrooms
- Require traffic mitigation or security
- Exceed the maximum number of attendees
It is unlawful to promote, advertise or hold a special event without first and paying the required fees. Read the special event ordinance.
Apply for a special event permit
Review the special event application and street closure authorization form. Then:
- Complete the application and submit it with the appropriate processing (application) fee at least 30 business days before the event. (Other departments and agencies may require other fees).
- You must include a detailed timeline/outline for the event.
- Include a route map outlining each affected street and how you will close them if your event will require street closures.
The city forwards your application to each department for final review and approval.

- The city may include other conditions or restrictions you are responsible to meet
