Feedback about town centers:  

• Some respondents expressed interest in a town center at the gravel pit, including the following:
  • Site revegetation with trees and other landscaping
  • Incorporating an outdoor pavilion with space for artists and musicians
  • Using underground parking in lieu of surface parking lots 
  • Including a "mobility hub" or convergence of parking, public transit, and active transportation amenities 
  • Offering high-end, unique restaurants and local shops
• Some respondents identified Cottonwood Corporate Center as a potential town center in the future, if office formats change and require less space, including the potential for this area to include a grocery store that could serve those traveling to Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood Canyons. 
• Some respondents identified Hillside Plaza as a potential location for a town center, including the following:
  • Preserving neighborhood commercial scale
  • Including affordable housing opportunities, if well-designed
  • Incorporating mixed-use development patterns with second- and third-level residences above ground-floor retail and dining 
  • Prioritizing beautiful architecture, landscaping, gathering spaces, and walkability
  • Some respondents indicated a concern for high-density development at Hillside Plaza, while others identified the site as a good location for densification to some degree. 
• Some respondents identified a desire for the Old Mill neighborhood to remain as-is, including the following:
  • Continuing single-family zoning without using a planned development district
  • Delineating the difference between land uses identified at the Wasatch Gravel Pit versus the Old Mill neighborhood west of Wasatch Blvd.

Feedback about Parks, Trails, and Open Space:

• Some respondents indicated a desire for more open space in the city, including the following: 
  • Preserving the rear Memorial Estates property as open space
  • Preserving the Dover Hill property as open space
  • Restoring the Old Mill property as open space
  • Using riparian setbacks to preserve unbuilt property near waterways 
• Some respondents indicated a desire for enhanced trail systems in the city, including the following:
  • Including unpaved and paved trails 
  • Creating creek-side trails along Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood Creeks, as well as an extended trail along the East Jordan Canal
  • Installing outdoor lighting along the Big Cottonwood Trail for increased nighttime visibility
  • Connecting Big Cottonwood Trail to more neighborhood access points
  • Constructing additional neighborhood byway trails like the Big Cottonwood Trail
  • Constructing trails through commercial areas, such as the Union Park area
• Some respondents indicated a desire to see changes made to the Ferguson Canyon area, including the following:
  • Including more parking for canyon users (Staff note: This will be provided as part of the Ferguson Park construction process, estimated to be completed in 2023)
  • Replacing the amphitheater with an updated amenity

• Some respondents indicated a desire for changes to city parks and recreation offerings, including:
  • Constructing more programmed parks, such as Mountview Park
  • Adding more amenities to existing parks, like a pump track and soccer field at Crestwood Park
  • Installing additional lighting at the Guthrie Skate Park

Feedback about transportation:

• Some respondents indicated a desire to see changes made to Wasatch Boulevard, including:
  • Constructing a grade-separated crossing from Golden Hills Park across Wasatch Boulevard to the residential neighborhood
  • Adding more active transportation amenities along the corridor 
• Some respondents indicated interest in mitigating traffic from Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood Canyons, including:
  • Using a shuttle service based at the gravel pit to reduce canyon traffic
  • Incorporating enhanced public transportation offerings
  • Mitigation that does not rely on a gondola system 
• Some respondents provided specific feedback on certain rights-of-way within the city, including: 
  • Preserving Big Cottonwood Canyon Road at the current width, without widening
  • Reconstructing the left-hand turn from Racquet Club Dr. to Fort Union Blvd. 
  • Constructing more streetscapes like the Highland Dr./Bengal Blvd. "triangle"
