Wasatch Front Waste and Recycling District announced they will begin collecting green waste as a subscription service beginning in March 2014. Customers will be able to put yard and lawn trimmings, fruit and vegetable scraps and leaves in a specially designed green waste cart for collection on their normal garbage and recycling day.

Memorial Day has become synonymous with the beginning of summer, and people celebrate with barbecues, outdoor cooking and camping trips. As summer begins, the Office of the State Fire Marshal would like to remind everyone to be careful with any activity that could trigger a wildfire. It doesn’t take much for a small fire to turn into a large blaze. Knowing a few fire safety tips will help everyone have a fire safe summer.

We currently have two openings on the arts council. Applications are available HERE. Completed applications must be submitted to Deputy City Manager Linda Dunlavy by 5 p.m. on June 21.

Cottonwood Heights artist Anthony Ithurralde was recently chosen as one of two winners in the national “Great Gatsby Fan Art Challenge.” As a reward, he was given an all-expense-paid trip to New York City to attend the red carpet premier of “The Great Gatsby” at Lincoln Center.

City officials have postponed a planned ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the final phase of the Big Cottonwood Canyon Trail. Originally the event was planned for June 25, but construction delays due to the rocky soil around the creek have made it necessary to put off the trail's grand opening until a later date. Once the date is chosen, information on the ribbon-cutting will be posted as soon as possible.
