Thousands of visitors came to Cottonwood Heights for The Revel Big Cottonwood Canyon Marathon and Half Marathon on Sept. 9. More than 4,600 runners participated in the event, which is an official qualifying race for the Boston Marathon. It was the sixth year the race has been run in Utah.

Preston Gardner of Centerville finished first among men in the full marathon, while Morgan VanGorder from Atlanta was first among women. VanGorder competed on the University of Georgia cross country team.

Mike Nelson of Lehi won the men’s side of the half marathon, while Sylvia Bedford of South Jordan took first place among women for the second consecutive year.

The city thanks everyone who made our visitors feel welcome and helped showcase the community as a gateway to our beautiful canyons.
