Several city staff members, city partners and residents participated in the Cottonwood Heights #ShakeOut 2017 on Saturday, April 22.

The year's event was centered around more than emergency preparedness in an earthquake; it was also about being prepared for other catastrophes like flooding.

A lot of people pitched in to report during the drill, and some families, including kids, really dug in and filled a LOT of sandbags. Many families stopped by the Cottonwood Heights recreation Center to fill more than 1,000 sand bags, to be used in case of flooding.

A big thanks to the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center for the use of their facilities, the Utah Region Red Cross volunteers for the simulated shelter, to the CH Amateur Radio Club for all the communications, The Unified Fire Authority (Station 116) for their assistance (probably filled the most sand bags, too), missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and all the CH Police & Public Works staff for their help to make this a successful exercise.
