Bark in the Park - Photos

On Saturday, September 19th dog lovers came to celebrate their little (and not so little) ones. Over 200 pets and their owners enjoyed the festivities. Activities included demonstrations from Rocky Mountain Rescue, the Cottonwood Heights K-9 unit, Dazzle dogzz dance group and Tailblazers flyball group. There were vendors representing services of all kinds associated with pampering your special pet. And everyone enjoyed the contests sponsored by the CH Youth City Council. Contests included the Tail Wagging contest, Pet-Owner lookalike contest, the Fashion show, Best Kisser contest and the Races. And the Cottonwood Heights local Girl Scout Troop #2254 raised over 667 pounds of dog food to be donated to help those struggling to feed their canine friends in this struggling economy. The event was lots of fun for all that attended!

Cancer is a devastating disease that effects everyone. Once a year, Cottonwood Heights City joins with the American Cancer Society in an effort to celebrate the survivors, remember those we have lost, and fight back by continuing the research to find a cure.

To honor our victorious heroes, the evening began with a survivor dinner and was followed by the survivor lap, which paved the way for the rest of the relayers to follow their examples of strength and courage throughout the night in the fight against the disease that never sleeps. Later in the evening, the luminaria ceremony helped us to remember those who fought the courageous battle but in the end we lost to the disease.

Relay is very personal to those who attend and each contributes in their own special way. This year's relay was held Friday, June 19th at Butler Park. Thirteen teams consisting of over 200 people camped out in the park to raise money to continue the fight against cancer. Teams consisted of families and friends, residents, businesses, employees and Youth City Council. Everyone enjoyed the charity concerts of Nathan Osmond and COLDFIRE. Onsite fundraisers included a silent auction, Walking with a Celebrity, Olympic Bobsled rides on wheels, hair styles on location, and Jail and Bail. In all, the teams raised over $23,800 for the American Cancer Society.

Despite the current economic situation, the benefit was a huge success!
